Internal linking technical tips for SEO

There are other ways to sap the strength from your links, but let’s focus on what makes a link strong as much as possible.

Of course, I recommend that you use the traditional HTML <a href=” structure but I also prefer the use of absolute URLs (where you start the link with http://) for a variety of reasons. First, if you fall into the lazy habit of using relative URLs, you end up with canonicalization issues. Your internal links for your root URL will all end with “index.html” but your external links will in many if not most cases just use your domain name.

Debunked: Only The 1st Anchor Text Counts With Google

My conclusion: Google does not only look at the 1st link to a page for anchor text, MSN/Live search does and I am not too sure about Yahoo!

Good advice and practice from SEOmoz anyway though, if only for MSN. Why take a chance on it? Make sure that you have your good anchor text in the 1st links to your pages.

Google counting only the first link to a domain - rebunked

Besides the fact that nofollowing the top link will not get you around the Google ignoring the second link, it is interesting to see that Google will still count the top link even though it is nofollowed. Maybe it was due to the fact that the nofollowed link was the only link on the web using that phrase as an anchor text ? Who knows… sounds like a theory worth testing.

Google passes second link’s anchor text

I dropped two links to SEO Theory onto the front page of Xenite.Org. Xenite is a trusted domain that has been around since 1997. SEO Theory has earned a fair amount of trust in Google thanks to all the links you good people have pointed to it over the past year. I’m reasonably certain that the home page for Xenite (http://www.xenite.org/) and the main blog page for SEO Theory (http://www.seo-theory.com/wordpress/) are recrawled on a daily basis and are usually recached once or twice a week.

How to create value-passing links in volume

This is all relevant to search engine optimization, I assure you, but I have to set a geometrical foundation for the point of this article. We don’t actually deal with 3-dimensional space in search engine optimization although we easily could. You can define 3 dimensions on the basis of almost anything (you don’t have to use height, width, and length like typical school mathematical textbooks do).
